Marion Natural History Museum72 viewsOn June 8, the Marion Natural History Museum’s afterschool group enjoyed a wonderful trip to Ram Island in Marion. The students watched various crabs in the salt marsh, visited several of the occupied Osprey nests and walked the shoreline looking for shells. We also had the opportunity to visit Clara and Darcy, the Moore’s pet donkeys. 1st Congregational Church of Marion72 viewsThe 1st Congregational Church of Marion staged a group of youngsters to perform their annual Christmas Nativity. The children enjoyed a much-deserved celebration with Christmas food and cookies, and excitement filled the air with the singing of carols and the making of a beautiful nativity scene that they take home to set under their Christmas trees. Marion Natural History Museum72 viewsOn February 9, the Marion Natural History Museum hosted a presentation on Native American sites in and around Marion. Principal Investigator Erin Flynn from Public Archaeology Labs, Inc. (PAL) in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, gave an excellent presentation including many locally found artifacts in the museum's collection and others. Together with Narragansett tribal member Max Brown-Garcia, who has supplied Native American regalia pieces, and Vincent Mancini's creations from cut feathers, these sacred works are part of the Marion Art Center’s indigenous art exhibit, “Exploring Native American Culture: Art, Craft and Inspiration,” through March 25. They decorated for the tailgate party, cooked delicious food to share, nachos, sliders, sloppy Joes and much more.
