Marion Natural History Museum72 viewsOn June 8, the Marion Natural History Museum’s afterschool group enjoyed a wonderful trip to Ram Island in Marion. The students watched various crabs in the salt marsh, visited several of the occupied Osprey nests and walked the shoreline looking for shells. We also had the opportunity to visit Clara and Darcy, the Moore’s pet donkeys. The museum would like to thank Dr. Michael Moore and his wife Hannah Moore for allowing us to explore the island’s many natural areas. Please visit our website: www.marionmus

The children enjoyed a much-deserved celebration with Christmas food and cookies, and excitement filled the air with the singing of carols and the making of a beautiful nativity scene that they take home to set under their Christmas trees. A sincere thank you to all the parents and grandparents for their dedicated support. Photo courtesy of Raquel G. Macfarlane

Marion Natural History Museum71 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum wishes to thank state forester James Rassmen for helping us to better understand the importance of trees and forests. We learned that not all tree rings are alike, how to tell how old a white pine is, and the importance of trees in combating climate change. Upcoming programs can be viewed on the museum's website: www.marionmuseum.org. Photos courtesy of Elizabeth Leidhold

Together with Narragansett tribal member Max Brown-Garcia, who has supplied Native American regalia pieces, and Vincent Mancini's creations from cut feathers, these sacred works are part of the Marion Art Center’s indigenous art exhibit, “Exploring Native American Culture: Art, Craft and Inspiration,” through March 25.
