Soapbox Derby151 viewsMarion and Rochester Cub Scouts came together on November 6 for a soapbox derby on Holmes Street in Marion. The longtime fundraising event was not held in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic but made a roaring return on Saturday, as children raced their homemade go-carts and collected donations for the Murphy and Others, Living Interdependently for Future Endeavors, Inc. Wylie Chair of Maritime Strategy at the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, spoke to Marion citizens gathered at Old Landing for Veterans Day observances on November 11. Also speaking were Select Board Chair Norm Hills, Town Administrator Jay McGrail, and the Reverend Eric E. Fialho, rector of St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church. Supporting with their participation were Marion Cub Scouts and the Sippican Elementary School Band under the direction of Hannah Moore.

Saint Gabriel's Church151 viewsAfter Sunday's 10:00 am service at Saint Gabriel's Church in Marion, families and friends used the coffee hour to make Advent wreaths. Grandchildren, grandparents, couples and kids all had fun making their wreaths. An Advent wreath is a circle of greenery with four candles. The candles represent the four Sundays leading up to Christmas. As it was the first Sunday of Advent, so we lit the first candle. Sponsored by the Friends of Marion Council on Aging, the event showcased 14 decorated Christmas trees, along with an artisan sale, music, refreshments and a raffle for over 10 gift baskets. Marion Village Stroll151 viewsCars lined several Marion streets as residents gathered for the town’s Christmas Stroll on December 12. Front Street and connecting village roads were partially closed for the event, as families enjoyed refreshments provided by area merchants at their doorsteps and along the roads. Clydesdale horses escorted Santa Claus and passengers, while the Sippican Elementary School Band played, Tabor Academy student singer Wesley Lai of Hong Kong sang, and a bike rider juggled bowling pins. Marion Natural History Museum151 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum wishes to thank Justin Barrett for the fun time we had last week learning about the importance of the Great Backyard Bird Count. The students were able to identify the many species including Starling (small flock), Mourning Dove, Juncos (good views), Cardinal, House Finch, House Sparrow, and American Crow.
