Clean Up85 viewsAfter a rainy Saturday, the Scouts from Pack 32 and Troop 32 of Marion along with countless volunteers from the community spent the morning on Sunday, April 27 cleaning up multiple areas around town. With the generous support of the Washburn Park Trust, the scouts, their families and countless volunteers started their spring-cleaning donating numerous items to a local charity (Gifts to Give). Marion 4th of July Parade84 viewsMarion Town Administrator Jay McGrail and Select Board members Norm Hills, John Waterman, and Randy Parker walked the Independence Day parade route on Monday morning along with veterans, marching bands, Boy and Girl Scout troops, youth baseball teams, decorated floats, fire engines, and a convoy of antique cars. Beginning at the Town House, the parade route went up Spring Street, then east on Route 6 before going right onto Front Street all the way down to Main Street and back up to Spring. Photos by Ryan F

Soapbox Derby84 viewsMarion and Rochester Cub Scouts came together on November 6 for a soapbox derby on Holmes Street in Marion. The longtime fundraising event was not held in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic but made a roaring return on Saturday, as children raced their homemade go-carts and collected donations for the Murphy and Others, Living Interdependently for Future Endeavors, Inc. Marion Natural History Museum84 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's afterschool group had fun last week learning why deer and moose grow antlers, when and why they lose them, and where to look for the shed antlers. We talked about horns versus antlers and inspected some of the museum specimens of each. We then split into groups and hid pretend "antlers" outside and had a blast hiding them on each other and trying to locate them in the fallen leaves. Marion Village Stroll84 viewsCars lined several Marion streets as residents gathered for the town’s Christmas Stroll on December 12. Front Street and connecting village roads were partially closed for the event, as families enjoyed refreshments provided by area merchants at their doorsteps and along the roads. Clydesdale horses escorted Santa Claus and passengers, while the Sippican Elementary School Band played, Tabor Academy student singer Wesley Lai of Hong Kong sang, and a bike rider juggled bowling pins. Marion Firefighters Association84 viewsBill Bacchiocchi, Andrew Pottle, Shawn Alden and Marion firefighter Eli Arne engage in a spirited game of horseshoes at Silvershell Beach, part of Sunday’s tournament held to benefit the Marion Firefighters Association, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Attendees enjoyed the competition, antique trucks, live music from the band US, a craft beer garden and barbecue.
