We investigated marshes, bogs, vernal pools, and upland forest habitats and the plants and animals that call these areas home. The museum would like to thank the Marion Harbormaster's office for allowing us access to Bird Island to take a look at some of our more rare and endangered birds and their nesting habitat. Valentine’s Day Drive-thru156 viewsVolunteers distributed over 100 dinners during the Marion Council on Aging’s Valentine’s Day drive-thru event on February 13 at the Cushing Community Center. The dinners donated by Mike Crosby helped make up for the fact the town’s seniors were not able to enjoy Valentine’s Day quite like they did last year inside the building with music and dancing. Library Zoo156 viewsLauren Paine of Pine Meadows Farm located in Mattapoisett, along with her father, Jeff, brought members of their “herd” to the Elizabeth Taber Library in Marion on July 8. Well over 100 people of all ages enjoyed the opportunity to visit with and learn about exotic animals. The younger members of the crowd listened intently as they heard about the eating habits and habitats of bearded dragons, Nigerian goats, lop-eared rabbits, tortoises, and alpacas, for which the farm is known. Marion Christmas Stroll 154 viewsCars lined several Marion streets as residents gathered for the town’s Christmas Stroll on December 12. Front Street and connecting village roads were partially closed for the event, as families enjoyed refreshments provided by area merchants at their doorsteps and along the roads. Clydesdale horses escorted Santa Claus and passengers, while the Sippican Elementary School Band played, Tabor Academy student singer Wesley Lai of Hong Kong sang, and a bike rider juggled bowling pins. Marion Food Pantry 154 viewsThe Marion Food Pantry is almost set to open at the Cushing Community Center. Hours will be Tuesdays from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm and on Thursdays and Saturdays from 10:00 am to noon, according to Council on Aging Director Karen Gregory. The pilot program will begin by offering nonperishable food and household items and is considering expanding to Mattapoisett and Rochester, adding perishable food offerings contingent on available storage.

Osprey Marsh Accessible Boardwalk153 viewsDespite a downpour perfectly timed for its planned gathering on Friday off Point Road in Marion, the Sippican Lands Trust celebrated the completion of the new Osprey Marsh Accessible Boardwalk. Executive Director Jim Bride and president Alan Harris held a live Zoom meeting for those who could not attend, and some of the donors for the project assisted in the ribbon-cutting.
