Sippican Schooner 5k and Mini Fun Run 159 views Sunday, May 4 was a perfect day for a fun run through Marion, and about 200 people turned out to participate in VASE’s second annual Sippican Schooner 5k and Mini Fun Run to raise money for educational programs at Sippican Elementary School. Running with Hannah159 viewsHannah Strom ran from Island Wharf down Front Street to Silvershell Beach on Sunday morning, surrounded by her brother and friends. The accomplishment is a major step in the Marion native’s long road back from severe injuries sustained last January in a horrific crash while traveling in Florida with the Holy Cross rowing team. At the end of her run, her father surprised her with a puppy. The Tabor Academy graduate plans to go back to the Worcester-based college and rejoin the rowing program.

Festival of Trees 158 viewsThe Festival of Trees opened on November 27 with a reception at the Cushing Community Center on Route 6 in Marion. Sponsored by the Friends of Marion Council on Aging, the event showcased 14 decorated Christmas trees, along with an artisan sale, music, refreshments and a raffle for over 10 gift baskets. Library Zoo157 viewsLauren Paine of Pine Meadows Farm located in Mattapoisett, along with her father, Jeff, brought members of their “herd” to the Elizabeth Taber Library in Marion on July 8. Well over 100 people of all ages enjoyed the opportunity to visit with and learn about exotic animals. The younger members of the crowd listened intently as they heard about the eating habits and habitats of bearded dragons, Nigerian goats, lop-eared rabbits, tortoises, and alpacas, for which the farm is known.
