Marion Halloween Parade 2017302 viewsHalloween in the Marion village is one event that shouldn’t be missed! Hundreds upon hundreds of little ghosts, ghouls, and goblins took to the streets to show off their costumes and follow it up with some treats (no tricks) and refreshments at the Marion Music Hall, sponsored by those very kind witches at the Marion Art Center. Marion Natural History Museum302 viewsOn Valentines Day, the Marion Natural History Museum's afterschool group had a chance to learn about humpback and right whales. Dr. Moore of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution showed the students how a drone may be used to observe a whale's spout to determine its health. We also had a chance to view bubble-netting practices of humpbacks, see how baleen plates fit in a whale's mouth, and discussed the hazards the whales face due to entanglements in fishing gear. Marion Natural History Museum302 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's afterschool group enjoyed learning the history of the Bird Island lighthouse and viewing the return of the birds to the island. We spotted roseate terns, common terns, oyster catchers, some unhappy Canadian geese, and a nesting mallard duck. We also learned about the recent restoration efforts made by the state Department of Fish and Wildlife to improve drainage and provide adequate nesting habitat for the returning birds. Seascape302 viewsEdward Albee’s “Seascape”, winner of the 1975 Pulitzer Prize, will open at the Marion Art Center on Thursday, August 9, and run through August 18. This two-act drama (dramedy) is about a retired couple enjoying a day at the beach when they meet a “sea creature” couple. Director Kate Fishman has cast Camerin Bennett as Sarah, Scott Fishman as Charlie, Tristan McCann as Leslie, and Susan Sullivan as Nancy. “This is a strong cast”, said Fishman, “and I predict a lively and engaging production.” Photo courtesy
