SSV Tabor Boy310 viewsOn Wednesday, October 19, Tabor Academy's Class of 2017 was gracious enough to give Marion Cub Scouts Pack 32 Class of 2028 a tour of the SSV Tabor Boy. This was an amazing opportunity for the boys to learn about this 102-year-old vessel as well as water safety and gain some knowledge about sailing.

Marion Natural History Museum310 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum wishes to thank Caroline Grainger for her donation of several beautifully carved birds created by her father, James Babbit. The museum lost many of its specimens during our ceiling collapse and these incredibly detailed pieces are greatly appreciated. The museum is hoping to create a new display of nature-inspired artwork from local artists and these specimens are a great start. Photos courtesy Elizabeth Leidhold

Living History 310 viewsIt looked like July 8, 1776 at Silvershell Beach in Marion this past Saturday. Folks from the Fairhaven Village Militia and Wareham Militia Group in conjunction with Marion Recreation and the Marion Cultural Council took spectators back in time to Colonial Massachusetts during a weekend-long encampment at the beach. Participants in olde-tyme apparel demonstrated what life was like in the 1770s during the Revolutionary War through demonstrations of drilling, cooking, and flintlock musket use. Photos by Jean

Pizza with Santa310 viewsIt’s never Christmas in Marion until you’ve sat on Santa’s lap followed by a slice of pizza. Sunday was the annual Pizza with Santa, hosted by the Marion Police Brotherhood. Guests brought donated toys for families in need and enjoyed a hot slice of pizza with the man of the hour. Photos by Jean Perry

Marion Natural History Museum310 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum after school group had a wonderful time exploring what works (and what doesn't) when constructing a wooden sailboat. The students constructed their own boat, either a single hull or catamaran, and added a sail and keel. After decorating their vessels, students raced the boats down two long rain gutters filled with water. Many thanks to engineer Mark Whalen for yet another terrific program! Marion Natural History Museum310 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's after school group enjoyed learning about life in salt marshes with the New England Coastal Wildlife Alliance (NECWA). We discovered that the diamondback terrapin can live 25-40 years, and that the warmest part of the terrapin's nest will result in females and the coolest part, males. The students practiced measuring turtle carapaces and taking a close look at the shells of different turtle species. The Marion Natural History Museum thanks Carol "Krill" Carson, Aanchal Gu
