Marion Town Party 246 viewsThe town collected hundreds of wood pallets and stacked them sky high in the ball field beside the Town House in anticipation of the annual Marion Town Party on Saturday, August 27. The theme of this year’s party, “Out of This World,” was appropriately represented in the playful banner hung on the stack of firewood and eventually burned along with it in an enormous bonfire. Marion Natural History Museum246 viewsMany thanks to the Blue Hill Audubon's Trailside Museum and the Marion Cultural Council for the fun program last Friday night. Participants were able to get up close and personal with two very different looking Eastern box turtles, a spotted turtle, and a very long black rat snake. We also discussed timber rattlesnakes and how to properly pick up a turtle to help it get across the road safely. Be aware, they may get upset and emit some fluid onto your leg so best to hold at a distance from your body!

Marion Natural History Museum246 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum wishes to thank Caroline Grainger for her donation of several beautifully carved birds created by her father, James Babbit. The museum lost many of its specimens during our ceiling collapse and these incredibly detailed pieces are greatly appreciated. The museum is hoping to create a new display of nature-inspired artwork from local artists and these specimens are a great start. Photos courtesy Elizabeth Leidhold
