Annual Turkey Trot 5K 301 viewsThe Annual Turkey Trot 5K wound its way through Marion Village on Sunday, November 17, with 182 trotters (and some ‘turkeys’ as well) braving a chilling wind that morning to make it to the finish line. Organized by the Marion Recreation Department, the event every year draws quite a flock of runners to the start and finish line at Tabor Academy, raising funds for Marion Rec programs and events. Marion Natural History Museum301 viewsOn Wednesday, the Marion Natural History Museum's after school group brought in their collections of rocks and minerals, coins, coral, and even Star Wars figures. We spoke about the history of collecting nature-related artifacts worldwide, beginning with "cabinets of curiosities" owned by individuals through modern day museums, and how studying these specimens helps us gain historic perspective. The group explored the museum's collections of minerals, shells, bird eggs and nests, among many other items.

Marion Halloween Parade 2017301 viewsHalloween in the Marion village is one event that shouldn’t be missed! Hundreds upon hundreds of little ghosts, ghouls, and goblins took to the streets to show off their costumes and follow it up with some treats (no tricks) and refreshments at the Marion Music Hall, sponsored by those very kind witches at the Marion Art Center. The Sippican School students led the parade under the direction of Hannah Moore. Photo by Paul Lopes

Marion Holiday Stroll301 views It was all about Santa on December 10 for the annual Marion Holiday Stroll, although at first the Grinch stole the show (but not Christmas) until Santa made his big arrival at Town Wharf to the chanting of his name, stealing back from the Grinch his rightful place as the center of attention. Marion Natural History Museum301 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's after school group enjoyed learning about life in salt marshes with the New England Coastal Wildlife Alliance (NECWA). We discovered that the diamondback terrapin can live 25-40 years, and that the warmest part of the terrapin's nest will result in females and the coolest part, males. The students practiced measuring turtle carapaces and taking a close look at the shells of different turtle species. The Marion Natural History Museum thanks Carol "Krill" Carson, Aanchal Gu

Marion Natural History Museum301 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum after school group enjoyed a woodland walk to collect various items from nature. The group collected pinecones, smelled sassafras trees, and had a great time collecting many colors of fallen leaves. Then it was back to the museum to construct plant presses and design colorful specimens. The group will bring their completed works back in a couple of weeks to laminate them. Many thanks to the parent volunteers and Tabor community service volunteers for all their help.

Marion Holiday Stroll301 viewsThe Marion village streets were filled with holiday revelers on Sunday, December 9, for the annual Marion Holiday Stroll. Santa’s boat docked at the Marion Wharf where the faces of hundreds of children lit up at his arrival. Santa boarded a horse-drawn carriage and paraded through the streets, passing businesses offering free goodies and dodging the whereabouts of that old Grinch who didn’t seem to mind Christmas coming at all this year.
