Marion Town Party 325 viewsThe town collected hundreds of wood pallets and stacked them sky high in the ball field beside the Town House in anticipation of the annual Marion Town Party on Saturday, August 27. The theme of this year’s party, “Out of This World,” was appropriately represented in the playful banner hung on the stack of firewood and eventually burned along with it in an enormous bonfire. Sippican Woman's Club325 viewsOn Friday, October 14, the Sippican Woman's Club & the Marion Council on Aging will co-sponsor a program at The Marion Music Hall. At 12:30 pm, a finger food luncheon will be served followed by a 1:30 program with Sally Hamer and her "singing crystal bowls.”

Marion Veterans Day Observance325 viewsDuring the Marion Veterans Day observance on Friday morning, the townspeople of Marion expressed a heartfelt thank you to the Benjamin D. Cushing VFW Post 2425, which in return gave a moving farewell as it disbanded this year and donated the VFW building to the town. Marion Natural History Museum325 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's after school group learned some tricks to identifying local winter birds with Justin Barrett, president of the Nasketucket Bird Group. Students used binoculars to view robins, cardinals, mourning doves and Canada geese. We also spoke about the Great Backyard Bird Count that took place February 17-20. Marion Natural History Museum325 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's afterschool group wishes to thank Tricia Cassady for sharing her works and expertise with us on October 11. Tricia showed us some of her commissioned art pieces, as well as examples of nature journaling from various artists. Tabor Academy Polar Plunge325 viewsTabor Academy hosted its second annual Polar Plunge on Sunday, January 21 at Silvershell Beach to raise money for the school’s Special Olympics Young Athletes Program. Students from ‘fundraising rival’ Sandwich High also showed up, with scores of students and staff making a dash in and quickly out of the chilly waters. The plunge raised about $8,000. Marion Natural History Museum325 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum’s afterschool group had a chance to learn to identify certain local trees in winter by their bark. Students compared red cedar bark to red pine, took a close look at various lichens and mosses that use tree bark as a surface to grow on, and counted rings in a log supplied by Hartley Saw Mill in Rochester.

As usual, the kids exhibited outstanding cooperation, creativity, and imagination. Mushroom Walk325 viewsThe Sippican Lands Trust and the Boston Mycological Club took a large group out on Sunday for a mushroom walk at the White Eagle Property in Marion.
