Police Dedication309 viewsThe public was invited to a building dedication and ceremony for the new Marion police station on July 10, 2010. The town appropriated $3.8 million for the new building, which replaces the old police station on Spring Street. Among those in attendance were Police Chief Lincoln Miller, the Marion police department, the Board of Selectmen, Town Administrator Paul Dawson, Plymouth County Sheriff Joseph McDonald and members of the Police Station Building Committee. Block Party!309 viewsIt was a little earlier than usual, but the annual Marion Block Party on August 28, 2010 went off without a hitch. Children enjoyed cotton candy, a bounce house and face-painting, while the grown-ups enjoyed conversation and good weather. The all-day event on Saturday, October 19, in Cranston, Rhode Island, challenged the scouts to perform various engineering feats, including building a bridge with duct tape. Over 20 girls dressed in their pink and red finest enjoyed dainty finger foods, festive cupcakes, red fruit punch, and tea. All over Marion, there were people in day-glo vests working with “Manducas”, long pincers made by Marion resident Eunice Manduca for picking up trash. Ms. Converse will tell her story about her travels with the Himalayan Project to Nepal in April 2008, and Ms. Hunsdorfer will also be in attendance to share the incredible details of her eight trips to Nepal to distribute 25 huge duffel bags of fleece wear collected by Massachusetts’ school children.
