Destination Imagination Global Finals251 viewsOld Rochester Regional Junior High School’s representative in the Destination Imagination Global Finals traveled to Knoxville, Tenn., during Memorial Day weekend to compete against the world’s most dynamic young minds. The GEEKS – Sara Lafrance, Holly Frink, Rikard Bodin, Kyle Rood, and Edward Krawczyk, as well as team managers Tina Rood and Kerry Bulman – finished seventh out 60 teams in their age group. AFS Club International dinner251 viewsOld Rochester Regional High School’s AFS Club held an international dinner in the cafeteria on Sunday evening. Students, parents, and community members were invited to bring a dish from another culture to share, so everyone could enjoy a unique and delicious meal. Upward of 50 people attended, including 12 foreign-exchange students in the SouthCoast area representing such countries as Japan, China, Thailand, Germany, Denmark, and Costa Rica. Middle-school students from Rochester, Marion and Mattapoisett along with junior and senior high school students from ORR showed their audience just why music in public schools is important. FORM Concert 251 viewsThe tri-town FORM concert brought together students whose combined musicality entertained a full house. The performers sang song style selections from spiritual to jazz and the crowd pleaser “Don’t Worry Be Happy” by Rochester Memorial School. Combining the voices of nearly 300 students the finale was a soulful treatment of “Wade In The Water”. Funds raised through FORM concerts support scholarships awarded each year to graduating seniors who have completed at least two full years in a school music program.

A guest speaker shared her horrific experience of losing a child to drunk driving, and students created a dramatic film that really drove home the message that drinking and driving can have lifelong consequences.
