Memorial Day Boat Race379 viewsThe Rochester Memorial Day Boat Race went off with very few hitches, despite the bursting of the bog flume at Grandma Hartley’s Reservoir just a couple days before the race. This year the weather was fine – maybe a tad hot for the racers, says Boat Race Chairman Art Benner, but great weather to kick off the summer season. Photos by Jean Perry

Octoberfest378 viewsThe Sippican Tennis Club was the site of the third annual Buzzard’s Bay Habitat for Humanity Octoberfest on September 19 in Marion Village. Music was provided by Felonious Funk, and party-goers enjoyed a wide array of finger foods and fine spirits. Friendly conversation lingered over the silent auction tables, which offered original oil paintings, handmade felted purses, memberships to the Wareham YMCA and the Marion Art Center, and plenty of gift certificate to area businesses. Relay for Life378 viewsIt rained down hard the night of the 9th annual Relay for Life at Old Rochester Regional, soaking the ground, the tents, and the participants – but it didn’t stop anyone from coming out anyway to walk for a cure and honor those who have battled cancer. The event raised over $42,000 and the proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. Photos by Jean Perry

ORR Book377 viewsCafe Parlez will be discussing The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie on Monday, November 28, 2011 6:30 pm. This book, which was slated to be taught to Old Rochester Regional eighth graders but later pulled, elicited discussion among junior high parents, some who supported the school's decision to teach the book, some who thought it was too mature for their children.
