High Winds and Waves387 viewsOn February 7, rain and high winds hit Southeastern Massachusetts, resulting in thousands of electrical outages. The hardest hit in the Tri-Town area was Rochester with more than 500 Eversource customers reporting wires down and service interruptions from mid-afternoon into the night. Gusts of over 70 miles per hour were reported by the National Weather Service. Rochester’s Highway Department was on the job for approximately 24 hours removing trees. Photo by Marilou Newell

Dragon Crossing387 viewsMattapoisett Animal Officer Kathy Massey was called to the area of Route 6 at the Mattapoisett/Marion line late Friday morning for what turned out to be a Tegu Dragon crossing the road. The 4-foot Tegu was transported to Mattapoisett Animal Hospital for treatment and was then brought to an undisclosed location for nourishment. Annual Easter Hunt386 viewsOn Friday, April 2, 2010 Alden Court Nursing and Rehab Center hosted their Annual Easter Hunt, which brought in nearly 75 community children. The kids enjoyed an Easter egg hunt hosted by the Easter Bunny and then a kids concert and interactive games hosted by local children's performer, Savannah the Rock Star. Zumbathon386 viewsThe ORR high school gymnasium was alive with music and movement on Sunday, April 11, 2010, when dancers took to the floor for a good cause. For a $30 contribution, participants could Zumba for three hours, and the proceeds of the Zumbathon went to Compassionate Care for ALS in Falmouth, a non-profit organization that provides equipment and support to families affected by ALS. The Zumbathon was in honor of Jeffrey Lawrence, a 47-year-old man living with ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis).

South Coast Bikeways386 viewsThere is a vision in the South Coast for a 50-mile cohesive bike path system that will run from Rhode Island to Cape Cod. On March 27 at the South Coast Bikeway Summit, South Coast Bikeway Alliance Member and Fairhaven Selectman Bob Espindola, and President and Coordinator Julianne Kelly, welcomed a full house at the Fort Tabor Community Center in New Bedford to discuss biking.
