Mattapoisett Fire Department Association Chowder Competition 406 viewsOn September 8, the 5th annual Mattapoisett Fire Department Association Chowder Competition featured a variety of flavorful chowders from restaurants and public safety facilities from Fairhaven, Rochester, and Mattapoisett. Octoberfest403 viewsThe Sippican Tennis Club was the site of the third annual Buzzard’s Bay Habitat for Humanity Octoberfest on September 19 in Marion Village. Music was provided by Felonious Funk, and party-goers enjoyed a wide array of finger foods and fine spirits. Friendly conversation lingered over the silent auction tables, which offered original oil paintings, handmade felted purses, memberships to the Wareham YMCA and the Marion Art Center, and plenty of gift certificate to area businesses. A Christmas Carol403 viewsNearly 30 children from all over Southeastern, Massachusetts will perform in the 2009 Burt Wood School of Performing Arts production of A Christmas Carol. Performers include Skyler Callahan of Rochester and Abigail Wheeler of Marion. The shows are on Sunday, December 13, at 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm in the grand ballroom of the Middleboro Town Hall, located on 10 Nickerson Avenue, in Middleboro. Zumbathon403 viewsThe ORR high school gymnasium was alive with music and movement on Sunday, April 11, 2010, when dancers took to the floor for a good cause. For a $30 contribution, participants could Zumba for three hours, and the proceeds of the Zumbathon went to Compassionate Care for ALS in Falmouth, a non-profit organization that provides equipment and support to families affected by ALS. The Zumbathon was in honor of Jeffrey Lawrence, a 47-year-old man living with ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis).
