Feestaardvarken485 viewsFeestaardvarken (Party Aardvark) is a 30-meter long (98 feet) concrete sculpture located in the center of Arnhem in the Netherlands. The sculpture was commissioned by Burgers’ Zoo to commemorate their 100th anniversary in 2013. It was created by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, who has many great works including a giant rubber duck that has been displayed around the world. His latest work, Hippopothames, will debut on September 14. Photo by Paul Lopes

New England Waters485 viewsEven in the throes of winter, seaside life persists in the icy cold New England waters. On Monday, January 19, two men were seen digging for quahogs during low tide in Mattapoisett Harbor at the end of Reservation Road. Donning waders and wielding rakes, the two men persisted in their winter work, while seagulls above them did the same. Photo by Colin Veitch. January 22, 2015 edition

Baby Geese485 viewsThey’re here! Facebook is buzzing about the cuteness that is the baby Canada geese on Rounseville Road in Rochester that finally hatched last week. The six goslings and their parents can be seen foraging in the grass for food or swimming in the small pond near the Vaughan Hill Road intersection. But beware! Canada geese are very protective of their young – you’ve been warned! These babies will remain with their parents for one year. Photo by Jean Perry

Happy Birthday America484 viewsIt was another close call for the Marion fireworks, as the town made an 11th hour push for funding to hold their annual Fourth of July celebration. After a change of date for a reduction in cost, the fireworks took place at Silvershell Beach on July 1. Photos by Felix Perez. July 7, 2011 edition
