Tinkham Lane100 viewsFootprints dot an icy pathway off Tinkham Lane, as the morning sun brightens the frozen tundra in the neighborhood where an EF-1 tornado did most of its damage back on August 8, 2023. Many fallen trees still lay in the woods between the homes, an abiding reminder to residents of their ordeal. Photo by Mick Colageo. January 25, 2024 edition

Snow Cat99 viewsThere wasn’t a lot of accumulation with the snow that fell on the weekend over the coast as the storm started with rain, but there was enough snow on Brandt Beach in Mattapoisett for a family to have some fun creating this feline creature with seashell eyes. He even has a tail. Photo courtesy Noi Sabal. January 11, 2023 edition

Marion Department of Public Works98 viewsMarion Department of Public Works Director Nathaniel Munafo manages a site at the end of Benson Brook Road that will see changes should voters support funding for a new DPW operations center at the May 9 Annual Town Meeting. To that end on Saturday morning, town officials conducted a second open house to educate residents about decaying and otherwise-inadequate facilities across Route 6 at the Highway Barn, followed by a visit to the site of the proposed construction. Ned's Point Wind98 viewsIt's a bird, it's a plane, it's … Labor Day weekend at Ned’s Point in Mattapoisett, where the sky turned into a life-size aquarium. Visitors to the park on Saturday launched large and lively kites mimicking the movement of varying sea-life creatures. Held back by gusty breezes, the "fish" faced the lighthouse as if preparing for a feeding frenzy. Children ran in the grass, while many sat in lawn chairs along the perimeter and just took it all in.
