Old Rochester Regional Unified Basketball Team33 viewsThe Old Rochester Regional Unified Basketball Team dominated Tri-Town Fire and Police to the delight of a packed ORR gymnasium on November 21. ORR seniors Traeh Carrington, John Butler and Jake Newton were recognized. Police chiefs Jason King (Mattapoisett), Robert Small (Rochester) and Richard Nighelli (Marion) presented $200 each from their respective departments to ORR’s Unified sports program, and nearly $2,700 was raised in ticket, T-shirt and concession sales. A parade began at the Dexter Lane baseball complex and made its way to Gifford Park, where ORYB’s David Arancio recognized the many years of service from Derek Mello, Peter Vieira and David Nelson, who all threw ceremonial first pitches. Sunday Squash32 viewsChildren and adults enjoyed playing squash on Sunday at Tabor Academy, thanks to a clinic put on by the Seawolves’ squash coach Guillermo Moronta. Without access to the sport anywhere between Boston and Providence besides prep schools, Moronta is hoping clinics like last weekend’s will “grow the game” and eventually generate the interest to support a middle-school program in the area. Rick Plunkett is also pictured with Rochester Police Officer Austin Alves, who was Ryan Plunkett’s catcher when the two played together on the A’s of the ORYB Major League. Alves recalled a home run Ryan Plunkett hit over the left-field wall that got caught up in the top of the batting cage at Gifford Park.
