Sassy_1.jpg
Sassy228 viewsMeet Sassy who has spent 16 years taking care of her humans and for many years was a fixture on the Mattapoisett wharves. Originally purchased by Mattapoisett ACO Kathy Massey, Sassy was then acquired from Massey when she was just a few weeks old by Arthur and Irene Frates. More than a decade later, Sassy still provides love and tenderness to the remaining members of her two-legged family, Arthur and Irene’s son, Robert, and his wife Elizabeth. Rob and Elizabeth feel “blessed” and call Sassy a “saint.” Sep 30, 2016

Dry Harvest245 viewsIt’s cranberry season in Southeastern Massachusetts. With drought conditions, dry harvesting the berries has started largely unaffected by the lack of water thus far, but bog flooding later in the season could be affected if water sources are not replenished with rain. Paula and Dana Johnson of Rochester are in the midst of their dry pick, circling the bogs, one after the other, day in and day out with their mechanical Furfords and burlap sacks to harvest the cranberries fit for fresh fruit sale.
