Ikebana181 viewsMattapoisett resident Ellen Flynn gave an Ikebana flower arranging demonstration at the public library on May 5. This type of flower arranging began in 7th century Japan, and Flynn has studied the art form for over 15 years. Reading from a centuries-old verse about Ikebana, Flynn shared that this art form is “like a poem, or a painting.” Photos by Marilou NewellMay 10, 2018

Marion Natural History Museum218 viewsOn Wednesday, the Marion Natural History Museum after-school group had fun inspecting some of the residents of vernal pools. With the use of magnifying glasses, we studied wood frog and salamander egg masses, log-cabin caddis-fly larvae, tadpoles, and various bugs. All specimens were returned to their original pool and now the students can recognize and, hopefully, protect these animals in the future. We also had a chance to handle some sphagnum moss and took a close look at the plant's structure to see whyMay 02, 2018
