Nantucket Shellfish Hatchery67 viewsOld Rochester Regional junior Connie Friedman of Marion gets a look through a refractometer that measures salinity in water. Springtime43 viewsSpringtime weather in southeastern Massachusetts as usual has been a mixed bag, but on Monday these blooming Daffodils in front of the Marion Town House signaled the change of seasons. Almanac.com says that these fall perennials should be planted before the first freeze and that while they prosper in direct sunlight, they will grow in some measure of shade provided the ground is not too wet. For that reason, effective drainage is essential, be it in a pot or on the side of a hill. Photo by Mick ColageoApr 05, 2023

Class of 2025 students and Old Rochester Regional High School Faculty43 viewsThe battles under the baskets were frequent and fierce, as Physical Education teacher Alli Lima displayed while attacking the paint during the Old Rochester Regional High School's basketball game pitting Class of 2025 students against ORR faculty on March 23 in the high school gymnasium. Travis Roy Student Center32 viewsTabor Academy hosted an Open House on Tuesday morning at the new Travis Roy Student Center, which replaces the former library on the same spot. While the late Travis Roy is most widely known as a student-athlete whose college-hockey career lasted all of 11 seconds, his passion for student life, ceramics, sailing and the big part the Marion campus played in his life is reflected in the building of the new student center bearing his name. Marion Art Center 33 viewsPrintmaking takes center stage at the Marion Art Center with works by Jani Kinnane and Taylor Hickey on exhibit through March. Kinnane’s print of a Ukrainian woman in folk attire demonstrates her artistic ability to not only produce lush images with hyper-realism, but also to convey emotion. The subject’s headdress is tattered, representing the current conflict being faced by the Ukraine. Image courtesy of Marion Art Center. March 9, 2023 editionMar 08, 2023

Rochester Country Fair Grounds33 viewsThe front entrance to the Rochester Country Fair Grounds sits quietly on Monday afternoon. After a 21-year run, the fair is shutting down for the next two years to reassess and determine a course of action following three straight cancelations by weather and two virus threats. Despite the decision, organizer Kelly Morgado says the Fair Committee plans to allocate remaining revolving-account funds to scholarships for six students attending any of the following high schools.
