21 viewsA procession estimated in excess of 100 vessels is seen from the stern of Mattapoisett’s 28-foot Harbormaster patrol boat late Sunday afternoon in Mattapoisett Harbor. The boats assembled and were led around the perimeter of the harbor, passing close by the Mattapoisett Boatyard and signaling with loud horns in a show of support. First responders from 19 communities, state agencies and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to the six-alarm blaze. In the August 22 press release, Mattapoisett Fire Chief Andrew Murray and State Fire Marshall Peter Ostroskey pointed to the ignition of gasoline vapors during the replacement of a boat’s gas tank as the likely origin and cause of the fire. The harbor area has long been home to live music, and the Mattapoisett Town Band is comprised of more than 30 musicians from diverse backgrounds covering a wide spectrum of ages from students to senior citizens. Mattapoisett Land Trust Vice President Peter Davies told the Wanderer that the Mattapoisett Museum and the MLT have jointly organized the event for five nonconsecutive years.
