DESCRIPTION:The Marion Board of Health would like to inform the community of the following event\, Rabies Prevention\, Control Efforts and Reducing Risk of Exposure. This event will now be held on June 3\, at 5:30 pm at the Benjamin D. Cushing Community Center. \nThe Cape Cod and Southeast Massachusetts Rabies Task Force is actively involved in rabies prevention and control efforts in the region. They coordinate with local health directors\, animal control officers and natural resource officers to contain terrestrial raccoon rabies on Cape Cod. Twice-annual distribution of oral vaccination baits has been key to the program’s successes. Come learn more about their work and ways to reduce risk of exposure to rabies. \nLight refreshments will be served. To register\, please call 508-748-3570. Space is limited.

SUMMARY:Tri-County Symphonic Band
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, June 14\, the Tri-County Symphonic Band\, directed by Philip Sanborn\, will be under the Grand Tent at Tabor Academy for its Annual Pops Concert to benefit the John R. Pandolfi Music Scholarship Fund. This year’s concert will be a festive celebration of Flag Day and 250 years of independence. The music will be a patriotic parade of classic American tributes to the flag and our country. The concert begins with John Williams’ “Liberty Fanfare” and is followed by “A Jefferson Portrait\,” “American Civil War Fantasy\,” “Variations on America\,” “America the Beautiful” and a host of iconic\, flag-waving arrangements. Cupcakes and lemonade will be part of the festivities along with a multi-prized raffle with the proceeds benefiting the scholarship fund. \nDoors will open at 12:00 noon. The music starts at 2:00 pm with a social hour at 1:00 pm. The grand tent\, with ample space and excellent ventilation on all sides\, is virtually an open-air concert venue\, on the Sippican Harbor waterfront. \nTickets are $40 in advance and can be purchased at the Symphony Music Shop in North Dartmouth\, Mimi’s of Marion or online at www.tricountysymphonicband.org/ Tickets can be purchased at the door on the day of the event for $50 each.

DESCRIPTION:The Friends of the Mattapoisett Library invite book lovers of all ages to their upcoming Harbor Days Book Sale on Friday\, July 17 and Saturday July 18\, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm in the Library Community Room at 7 Barstow Street\, Mattapoisett. This event is a great opportunity to find gently used books at affordable prices while supporting the library’s valuable programs and activities. \nIn preparation for the sale\, the Friends of the Mattapoisett Library will also be accepting book donations on Wednesday\, July 15 through Thursday\, July 16\, from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Community members are encouraged to donate gently used books to help make the event a success. In addition we will be accepting Jewelry donations for our December Jewelry Sale. The evening will begin with the Sippican Historical Society’s Annual Meeting at 6:30 pm\, followed immediately by Dr. Rubinson’s talk at 7:00 pm. \nThis presentation will dive into the reasons why Benjamin Franklin and his peers believed the United States was the ultimate leader in scientific exploration. How did early American scientists define the discipline as a fundamentally American activity\, ultimately helping the United States become a global scientific powerhouse? \nDr. Paul Rubinson is a Professor of History at Bridgewater State University. He has written extensively on the intersection of scientists and nuclear weapons and is the author of the forthcoming book from Cambridge University Press\, “American Scientists and Human Rights from the Early Republic to the Cold War.” \nThis evening is free and open to the public\, made possible thanks to the generous support of Sippican Historical Society members.
