Busy Spring Ahead for ORR Seniors

The end of senior year for high school students is always a memorable time, and it will be no different for the Old Rochester Regional High School graduates of 2015.

The last regular day of school for this year’s seniors is Wednesday, May 20 with commencement set for June 6.

Along the way, there will be plenty of memorable events for seniors, most of which fall between the last school day and graduation. Senior Class President Michael Kassabian spoke on some of the upcoming events and the increasing anticipation for the Class of 2015 graduation.

One of the most exciting events for the senior class – the Mr. ORR pageant – will take place on May 7 at 7:00 pm. The first important event for seniors is the annual Senior Breakfast, which will occur on May 14 at 7:30 am.

Although classes end May 20, seniors will take their final exams between Thursday, May 21 and Wednesday, May 27. Caps and gowns will be distributed to seniors on May 28. Senior Prom will take place at The Villa in East Bridgewater on the evening of Tuesday, June 2. On Thursday, June 4 there will be a graduation rehearsal in the morning at 9:00 am, and an awards banquet for the graduating seniors at 7:00 pm.

Friday, June 5 will mark the Senior Assembly, usually a favorite of the student body. The seniors will be presented in their caps and gowns for the first time, while retrospective videos of the students’ time at the school will be mixed in with speeches from the senior and junior Class Presidents. The long line of events will be capped off with the biggest one of them all: Graduation Day on Saturday, June 6.

Class President Kassabian is busy with preparations for his class’ send-off.

“My job is to make sure that the senior events run smoothly and are an enjoyable send-off for the senior class, as well as enjoyable for the rest of the school,” Kassabian said.

One event that’s been gaining steam in the last few weeks is the Mr. ORR pageant.

“We’re still in the early stages of planning Mr. ORR,” said Kassabian. “Rehearsals are starting at the end of April. It’s a good group of guys [participating in the event].”

Mitch Midwood, Mike Pellegrino, Shaun Lavoie, Ben Rounseville, and Alex Aruri are among the seniors participating. Sophomore Jonathan Kvilhaug, who participated as a freshman, will compete again this year.

Kassabian is excited for the big events that lie ahead in the coming months. In addition to Prom and Mr. ORR, he is looking forward to his role in planning a class trip (date TBA).

“We’re shooting for a trip to Martha’s Vineyard,” he said.

With the help of Kassabian, there are plenty of events for both seniors and the rest of the student population to enjoy over the next two months. However, the focus will be on the Class of 2015 as they gear up for their big day on June 6.
