Freezin' for a Reason 2014487 viewsParticipants in the 2014 Polar Plunge on January 1 were encouraged to wear costumes for the event, which raised thousands of dollars for the BAM Foundation. BAM is an organization that offers financial assistance to families battling cancer to help offset the unexpected costs of cancer treatment. Hundreds of people turned out for the event, with over a hundred participants who plunged into 34 degree waters, just a few degrees warmer than the 28 degree air temperature that morning. Manguito members really captured the attention of the kids, resulting in plenty of learning while the group’s sizzling salsa and merengue music resulted in an eruption of dancing and spontaneous conga lines. Chili Cook-off487 viewsThe MattMen of Mattapoisett Congregational Church came together Sunday night, January 25th ,to see who amongst them cooks up the best man-made chili. Tasting was free to all who came. Those who wished to vote contributed $5 to The Baby Project of New Bedford. $518 was raised for The Baby Project. Carolyn Titcomb487 viewsOn April 8, family and friends gathered at the residence of Carolyn Titcomb of Mattapoisett to celebrate her 100th birthday. Those in attendance traveled from throughout New England and from North Carolina to attend the event. Titcomb said she was overwhelmed by seeing so many people assembled just for her and said of her special birthday, “I don’t know how I got here!” Titcomb has two sons, William Titcomb of Marion, and Peter Titcomb of North Carolina, four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
