Marion Natural History Museum456 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum after school group had a great time working with natural materials to create structures, candleholders, jewelry boxes, cairns, and a communal landscape complete with bridge, benches, and trees. As usual, the kids exhibited outstanding cooperation, creativity, and imagination. Overcast skies were welcomed but the July 4th heat was tough for the runners and the cheering crowds who begged for shade. The field of runners was well over 1,000 and coming in first was Joe Farrand at 26:59. Shortly after, the first female to finish was Kim Bolick at 29:54. Marion Natural History Museum456 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum Explored Group led by the staff from MattRec had a great week exploring Mattapoisett's open spaces. Along with crabbing, netting fish, building cairns, discovering types of seaweeds and saltmarsh vegetation, and plenty of swimming, we also met Coast Guard Fairhaven and Marion Flotilla members for a tour of Ned's Point lighthouse. We learned about oyster farming with Bob Field and enjoyed a boat tour of Mattapoisett Harbor with the Harbormaster's Office.
