New Year Plunge386 viewsOn January 1, 2013, Mattapoisett Town Beach played host to a New Year’s polar plunge fundraiser. The event, which attracted over 400 people, raised money to benefit BAM Foundation, Inc., a New Bedford non-profit which donates money to South Coast families dealing with members who have cancer. ORR Basketball386 viewsThe ORR Lady Bulldogs Varsity Basketball team dominated Dighton-Rehoboth 50-24 Thursday night in front of a home crowd in the ORR gymnasium. The girls went on a 16-2 run in the first quarter and never gave up their lead. The team improves to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the South Coast Conference. The Tabor team, which has almost 40 players, had a 1-2 record going into Saturday’s competition. Pinewood Derby386 viewsOn Saturday, March 2nd 2013, The Cubs Scout Pack 32 held a pinewood derby at the Community Hall of the Congregational Church in Marion. The results were 1st Lucas Marcolini, 2nd Brendan Hubbard, 3rd Nathaniel Bangs, and 4th Nate Robertson. All four move on to regional finals in New Bedford later this month. Memorial Day Boat Race386 viewsDan Lawrence and William D. Watling III of Rochester (above left) broke the race record, winning the men’s division with a time of 1:46:59. Amy Hartley-Matteson of Mattapoisett and Katherine Hartley of Rochester (2:11:14) won the women’s division for the third consecutive time – the second time they’ve three-peated. Tri-Town Relay for Life386 viewsHundreds of residents attended the Tri-Town Relay for Life last weekend, raising nearly $40,000 for the American Cancer Society.
