Family Fun Festival 496 viewsFamilies came out in record numbers to enjoy the 4th Annual Fall Free Family Fun Festival sponsored by the Mattapoisett’s Lion Club on October 19 held at Shipyard Park. Bruce Rocha of the club estimated attendance at over 400. Kids and adults alike enjoyed free face painting, bowling with pumpkins, a corn hole toss, snacks, hayrides to Ned’s Point and, yes, free pumpkins to take home. Elizabeth Taber Statue496 viewsA murky morning gave way to a sun-drenched celebration of Elizabeth Taber as the bronze statue of “Marion’s Fairy Godmother” was officially unveiled on October 17 in Bicentennial Park. Representatives from the Celebrate Elizabeth Taber Committee, Town of Marion officials, and sculptor Erik Durant addressed a large gathering of citizens who collected stickers and enjoyed music by the Academy Brass Quartet along with cupcakes. Poker Run495 viewsMotorcyclists gathered Sunday morning, September 20, in the parking lot of ORR to ride in the third annual Poker Run for Alex Pateakos. Alex is a five-year-old Marion boy who suffers from Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Money raised by the poker run will benefit Alex, and Families of SMA, a group that helps families like the Pateakos live their lives as close to normal as possible.
