Students compared red cedar bark to red pine, took a close look at various lichens and mosses that use tree bark as a surface to grow on, and counted rings in a log supplied by Hartley Saw Mill in Rochester.

Marion Natural History Museum443 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's after school group enjoyed learning about life in salt marshes with the New England Coastal Wildlife Alliance (NECWA). We discovered that the diamondback terrapin can live 25-40 years, and that the warmest part of the terrapin's nest will result in females and the coolest part, males.
