Behold, the locals who fit that description as they enjoy a frosty January 1st at Mattapoisett Town Beach for the annual Freezin’ for a Reason Polar Plunge! Hundreds lined the beach to take the plunge, with bundled spectators watching from the sidelines and cheering as the plungers charged ahead screaming and shrieking with exhilaration. Marion Natural History Museum389 viewsOn January 24, the Marion Natural History Museum's after-school group investigated different adaptations wild animals make to get through the winter months. We spoke about different types of food sources animals use, as well as their caches/larders and how to identify them in the field. We also had fun working on a bird feeder project to bring home. Marion Natural History Museum389 viewsSeveral students took advantage of the Marion Natural History Museum's new virtual reality set over the February vacation. Student Jacob Nye spent some time on a virtual tour of the Amazon Rain Forest, tried walking in space, and enjoyed visiting with animals under the sea. The virtual reality is available for children and adults to use by appointment only. Museum member families receive five free virtual tour visits, $5 per visit for non-members.

This year’s weather was a major improvement from last year’s soaking, but overall participation was down this year.
