Christmas Holiday Shop390 viewsSt. Anthony’s and St. Rita’s parishioners combined efforts to give the community a Christmas Holiday Shop and Celebration on Saturday, December 5, 2009. The basement of St. Anthony’s church was decked out in snowflakes, wreaths, bells, bows, and a Santa sleigh. Santa listened patiently as children told him what they wanted for Christmas. Local Authors390 viewsAuthors Without Borders, a group of authors from Rochester, New Bedford, Fairhaven and Lakeville will offer a workshop and panel discussion at Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School in Taunton on April 10. The program will be entitled “New Age Challenges in Publishing and Writing” and the seasoned authors will offer expert advice to aspiring area writers. Zumbathon390 viewsThe ORR high school gymnasium was alive with music and movement on Sunday, April 11, 2010, when dancers took to the floor for a good cause. For a $30 contribution, participants could Zumba for three hours, and the proceeds of the Zumbathon went to Compassionate Care for ALS in Falmouth, a non-profit organization that provides equipment and support to families affected by ALS. The Zumbathon was in honor of Jeffrey Lawrence, a 47-year-old man living with ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis).

Chris and Ben Bryant, brothers from Marion, are hoping to use the spot as a place for their oyster farm, but residents abutting Job’s Cove were not receptive to the idea at their April 7 aquaculture hearing, which has been continued until May 4 at 7:05 pm in the Marion Town House. The ceremony began with a service at the Veteran’s monument in front of the library, and then a parade assembled and marched to the town wharf and to Cushing Cemetery. Dog's Beach390 viewsAmy Hardwick, a Mattapoisett resident, is petitioning to make Goodspeed Island the official dog beach in town. The town has been working to keep the dog waste bag dispenser full, after abutting neighbors have complained about trash and dog waste at Goodspeed.
