Marion Natural History Museum468 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum Explored Group led by the staff from MattRec had a great week exploring Mattapoisett's open spaces. Along with crabbing, netting fish, building cairns, discovering types of seaweeds and saltmarsh vegetation, and plenty of swimming, we also met Coast Guard Fairhaven and Marion Flotilla members for a tour of Ned's Point lighthouse. We learned about oyster farming with Bob Field and enjoyed a boat tour of Mattapoisett Harbor with the Harbormaster's Office.

It’s All About the Animals, a non-profit cat shelter in Rochester, hosted its Halloween-themed outdoor event on Sunday, Octopurr 14, featuring live music, a huge raffle, lots of vendors and food and, of course, a glimpse of all the adorable kittens and cats available for adoption. The Mattapoisett Land Trust’s annual tradition continues with help from the folks at Brownell Systems and their trusty crane. This year Alan Johnson braved a fear of heights to place the hat on top of Salty the Seahorse’s head just right as MLT’s Jenny Mello directed from below and Brownell’s Tom Checkman operated the crane’s controls. The shows start at 7:30 pm at Tabor’s Fireman Center for the Performing Arts in Hoyt Hall at 245 Front Street, Marion. Family Fun Festival 468 viewsFamilies came out in record numbers to enjoy the 4th Annual Fall Free Family Fun Festival sponsored by the Mattapoisett’s Lion Club on October 19 held at Shipyard Park. Bruce Rocha of the club estimated attendance at over 400. Kids and adults alike enjoyed free face painting, bowling with pumpkins, a corn hole toss, snacks, hayrides to Ned’s Point and, yes, free pumpkins to take home. Frozen Princesses468 viewsOn December 21, two princesses visited the Mattapoisett Public Library to read stories and sing songs from the Disney film Frozen. Princesses Elsa and Anna beguiled the children as well as their parents in an hour-long performance culminating in hugs and a photo session.
