The students learned that 10 bees weigh the same as one M&M, and how bees communicate by dancing. We explored beekeeping equipment and which hive box holds the queen and which holds the honey. Marion Holiday Stroll505 views It was all about Santa on December 10 for the annual Marion Holiday Stroll, although at first the Grinch stole the show (but not Christmas) until Santa made his big arrival at Town Wharf to the chanting of his name, stealing back from the Grinch his rightful place as the center of attention. Tabor Academy Polar Plunge505 viewsTabor Academy hosted its second annual Polar Plunge on Sunday, January 21 at Silvershell Beach to raise money for the school’s Special Olympics Young Athletes Program. Students from ‘fundraising rival’ Sandwich High also showed up, with scores of students and staff making a dash in and quickly out of the chilly waters. The plunge raised about $8,000. Marion Natural History Museum505 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum after school group had a wonderful time exploring what works (and what doesn't) when constructing a wooden sailboat. The students constructed their own boat, either a single hull or catamaran, and added a sail and keel. After decorating their vessels, students raced the boats down two long rain gutters filled with water. Many thanks to engineer Mark Whalen for yet another terrific program! Massachusetts State Geography Bee505 viewsOwen Modracek, a resident of Rochester and 7th-grader at ORRJHS, has qualified to represent the Tri-Town in the Massachusetts State Geography Bee, sponsored by the National Geographic Society. Only the top 100 students in the state are invited to compete in the State GeoBee on March 29 at Elms College in Chicopee, MA. Owen won the ORRJHS Geography Bee, and then qualified by taking a state-sponsored exam. State champions then go on to compete in the National Geographic GeoBee in Washington D.C.
