Marion Natural History Museum473 viewsOver the past two Wednesdays, the MNHM afterschool group visited Bird Island courtesy of Isaac and Peter of the Marion Harbormaster's office. We observed many terns arriving to this crucial nesting spot, as well as oystercatchers, gulls, and a pair of Canadian geese. We inspected nesting boxes prepared by the state Fish & Wildlife department and the habitat restoration improvements to the island. We also toured the 200-year-old lighthouse.

Mattapoisett Memorial Day 473 viewsIt was a great turnout for the Mattapoisett Memorial Day observance on Monday afternoon, which began at Center School and then proceeded to the library for the placement of flowers on the monuments before parading over to Town Wharf to place a wreath in the outgoing tide to honor those lost at sea. Rochester turned 340 473 viewsHey, hey, it’s your birthday, Rochester! Rochester turned 340 years old on June 4, and the third grade class from RMS was invited to celebrate with some cake and ice cream at the senior center on Tuesday. Students started the day with a tour around historic Rochester before breaking for lunch and sharing a large birthday cake with seniors. Princesses Elsa and Anna beguiled the children as well as their parents in an hour-long performance culminating in hugs and a photo session.
