Disaster Drill510 viewsFairhaven Fire Department hosted a full-scale exercise to improve emergency response in the region. Mattapoisett, Rochester, Dartmouth, Freetown, Acushnet, and New Bedford all responded to a disaster that simulated an accident between a school bus and an oil truck at Livesey Park in Fairhaven. Rachel's Challenge510 viewsMattapoisett grade school students sat with rapt attention on November 9, 2009 as they learned about Rachel Scott. Rachel's life was taken in the Columbine High School shootings, but her legacy of kindness lives on in the "Rachel's Challenge" program, which is designed to promote compassion among children. With songs like "A-Train", "Boogie-Woogie Bugle Boy" and "Cry Me a River", the Caberet is sure to be a hit. The Big Band Caberet will be held at the Mattapoisett Knights of Columbus hall on December 27 at 5:30 pm. Zumbathon510 viewsThe ORR high school gymnasium was alive with music and movement on Sunday, April 11, 2010, when dancers took to the floor for a good cause. For a $30 contribution, participants could Zumba for three hours, and the proceeds of the Zumbathon went to Compassionate Care for ALS in Falmouth, a non-profit organization that provides equipment and support to families affected by ALS. The Zumbathon was in honor of Jeffrey Lawrence, a 47-year-old man living with ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis).
