Stars & Stripes Forever Musical Revue457 viewsThe Marion Art Center staged the “Stars & Stripes Forever Musical Revue” last weekend to packed crowds. The rousing show mimicked a USO event, with the audience being entertained as the “troops.” The production featured the “Swanson Sisters from Sheboygan: Dixie, Trixie & Pixie,” (played by Caroline Blaise, Pam Breton, and Denise Bastos) and was hosted by the hilariously funny “Frankie B. Sharpe” (played by Eric Bosworth). The MAC theatre was set up cabaret style, and guests brought their own refreshments.

The Heart of Christmas457 viewsMarion’s First Congregational Church delivered the season’s perfection with Cassandra Morgan directing ‘The Heart of Christmas’ cantata. This annual event is sugar on the plums for anyone who appreciates live music. The combined voices and instruments of over 60 performers filled the church with pitch perfect music telling the story of Jesus’ birth. From bluesy pieces or full operatic compositions by Pepper Choplin the full house was delighted and moved tears to joy. Photo by Marilou Newell

Hundreds of people turned out for the event, with over a hundred participants who plunged into 34 degree waters, just a few degrees warmer than the 28 degree air temperature that morning. Tabor Academy’s Oyster Farm457 viewsTabor Academy’s oyster farm is like a marine biology lab by the sea, providing students with hands-on learning experience. The school hosts a summer camp where campers can explore oyster farming firsthand, compiling “oyster reefs,” large piles of oysters, and depositing them into salt water. Here, David Bill of the Nautical Science Department at Tabor inspects an oyster bag from his skiff Ting. Photo courtesy Tabor Academy

Marion Natural History Museum457 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum after school group enjoyed a close-up look at a model of a harbor seal last Wednesday. The museum borrowed the seal from the Buzzards Bay Coalition for the day, and we had fun exploring what makes a harbor seal such a successful resident of Marion waters, and learning about the hazards they may encounter, as well as why it is important to keep your distance when you see a seal on land.
