Dog Walk-a-thon479 viewsFreemin Bauer, 17, of Mattapoisett Boy Scout Troop 53, along with his fellow scouts and adult assistants, held a Dog Walk-a-thon on August 27 in Mattapoisett Village. Bauer’s event, part of his Eagle project, is to raise awareness for being a responsible dog owner and to help support the Fairhaven Animal Shelter. Proceeds from the event will be used to purchase supplies for repairs the scouts will make to the facility. Additional funds raised from the event will be donated to the shelter. Photos by Marilou

Raising over $7,000, owner/operator Pam Robinson said this year’s event was “absolutely over the top!” The shelter is in the process of building an addition to create a cat room and a porch. “I cannot thank everyone enough for their wonderful donation and participation,” said Robinson. He graduated in 1994 from U.S. Military Academy and achieved successive ranks to become a full colonel in 2015. Veterans Day Ceremony in Mattapoiset479 viewsOn November 11 following the Veterans Day Ceremony at Old Hammondtown School in Mattapoisett, members of Boy Scout Troop 53 performed a flag decommissioning ceremony at the Mattapoisett Land Trust’s Dunseith Gardens. Flags had been placed in decommissioning boxes built by Drew Robert for his Eagle project. The flags were then collected from the boxes located at the police department, town hall and public library and prepared for burning and burial.
