Marion Fire Department 514 viewsSunday was a solemn day for the Tri-Town and its first responders as many gathered to honor Thomas Nye, 72, a 45-year veteran of the Marion Fire Department who died February 27 in the line of duty. Over 100 firefighters, police officers, and EMS personnel from the Tri-Town and beyond marched together down Route 6 in Mattapoisett on March 3 to pay their respects to their fallen comrade who suffered a cardiac arrest at home after assisting in a fire call the night before. Mattapoisett Tree Committee 514 viewsOn March 9, the Mattapoisett Tree Committee announced the winners of the annual 5th-grade Tree City USA Arbor Day Foundation contest, with this year’s poster theme: “Trees Have Mass Appeal”. The first place prize of a $35 gift certificate went to Amanda Tomasso, whose poster now goes on to the statewide competition. The $25 second place prize went to Sasha Volkema.
