Rochester Country Fair 480 viewsThe Rochester Country Fair rolled into town on Thursday, August 18, filled the air with the sweet smells of Italian sausage and fried fair food, mixed with the smoke of diesel engines, and created that magical scent we all relish until the fair wrapped up on Sunday, August 21. Tractor pulls, animal shows, kids’ games, music, and wrestling (including the match between The Aardvark and Buck Chuck) delighted us while it lasted in the bucolic setting of Rochester, Massachusetts. Sassy480 viewsMeet Sassy who has spent 16 years taking care of her humans and for many years was a fixture on the Mattapoisett wharves. Originally purchased by Mattapoisett ACO Kathy Massey, Sassy was then acquired from Massey when she was just a few weeks old by Arthur and Irene Frates. More than a decade later, Sassy still provides love and tenderness to the remaining members of her two-legged family, Arthur and Irene’s son, Robert, and his wife Elizabeth. Rob and Elizabeth feel “blessed” and call Sassy a “saint.”

Hammond Quarry480 viewsMattapoisett Land Trust President Mike Huguenin led a group of about 52 people on a walk about Hammond Quarry, a historical property off Mattapoisett Neck Road that the MLT is hoping to acquire next year. Pink granite was mined from the site between the early 1700s through the early 1900s, and the MLT plans to purchase the property to preserve the quarries and carve out trails for public access.
