Poker Run406 viewsMotorcyclists gathered Sunday morning, September 20, in the parking lot of ORR to ride in the third annual Poker Run for Alex Pateakos. Alex is a five-year-old Marion boy who suffers from Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Money raised by the poker run will benefit Alex, and Families of SMA, a group that helps families like the Pateakos’ live their lives as close to normal as possible. Disaster Drill406 viewsFairhaven Fire Department hosted a full-scale exercise to improve emergency response in the region. Mattapoisett, Rochester, Dartmouth, Freetown, Acushnet, and New Bedford all responded to a disaster that simulated an accident between a school bus and an oil truck at Livesey Park in Fairhaven. Antiques in Rochester406 viewsGinny Decker brought a pair of Victorian era frames to be appraised at Rochester Woman's Club Antique and Collectible show. These frames contain photos of her grandparents Nathaniel and Betsy Barros. Betsy Barros was the cousin of Lavinia Warren Stratton, the wife of General Tom Thumb who was made famous by P.T. Barnum. Christmas Holiday Shop406 viewsSt. Anthony’s and St. Rita’s parishioners combined efforts to give the community a Christmas Holiday Shop and Celebration on Saturday, December 5, 2009. The basement of St. Anthony’s church was decked out in snowflakes, wreaths, bells, bows, and a Santa sleigh. Santa listened patiently as children told him what they wanted for Christmas. With songs like "A-Train", "Boogie-Woogie Bugle Boy" and "Cry Me a River", the Caberet is sure to be a hit. The Big Band Caberet will be held at the Mattapoisett Knights of Columbus hall on December 27 at 5:30 pm. The Sippican Woman’s Club held a house tour that included all the landmarks stops in the Village, including the Marion Art Center and the Sippican Historical Society.
