Marion Pack 32 Cub Scouts Fundraiser524 viewsThe Marion Pack 32 Cub Scouts, with the sponsorship of the Marion Recreation Department, held a Tabor Skate fundraiser on Sunday, January 11 in the Travis Roy Rink at Johnson Arena at Tabor Academy. Klondike Derby at Camp Cachalot524 viewsOver the last couple of weekends the Marion Boy Scouts Troop 32 attended a Klondike Derby at Camp Cachalot in Myles Standish State Park and had their annual Movie Night at the cabin at Camp Hadley, Marion. The Klondike Derby was attended by Jackson St. Don, Chris Horton, Jack Nakashian and David Sheldon on January 31. There were difficulties this year due to, of all things, snow. But the Scouts performed as many of the skill tests as they could and had good fun in the cold and snow in the all day event.

Turtle524 viewsSome of the residents of Jenney Lane at The Cove in Marion have found a new passion in rescuing diamond-backed terrapin eggs and safely releasing the hatchlings into the wild. A private neighborhood group, along with “Turtle Guy” Don Lewis and wife Sue Weiber Nourse, created a terrapin habitat restoration project knows as the turtle garden at The Cove. Rochester Grammar School Reunion524 viewsNearly a hundred people turned out to celebrate at the 10th Rochester Grammar School Reunion. Participants told “life stories,” sharing decades of experiences from careers, to marriages, to children and grandchildren. Marion Natural History Museum524 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum wishes to thank Jim Pierson for a wonderful program on collecting rocks and fossils. We learned about geology vs. paleontology equipment and how fossils are made. We also had a chance to make our own Megladon tooth to take home. The museum also wishes to thank Sarah Porter, and parent volunteers Wendy Copps and Marcia Waldron, for their help during the event. Also, many thanks to ORCTV for allowing us to borrow their equipment to record the event.

As usual, the kids exhibited outstanding cooperation, creativity, and imagination. Marion Natural History Museum524 viewsOn Wednesday, the Marion Natural History Museum after-school group had fun inspecting some of the residents of vernal pools. With the use of magnifying glasses, we studied wood frog and salamander egg masses, log-cabin caddis-fly larvae, tadpoles, and various bugs. All specimens were returned to their original pool and now the students can recognize and, hopefully, protect these animals in the future. We also had a chance to handle some sphagnum moss and took a close look at the plant's structure to see why
