The rain couldn't dampen holiday spirits as visitors enjoyed delicious food and listened to Christmas music performed by the Showstoppers. Christmas Swim491 viewsA 2009 Christmas morning swim benefitted Helping Hands and Hooves, a Mattapoisett non-profit organization dedicated to therapeutic horseback riding for adults with disabilities. 40 swimmers and at least 50 onlookers participated in the 2009 swim. Zumbathon491 viewsThe ORR high school gymnasium was alive with music and movement on Sunday, April 11, 2010, when dancers took to the floor for a good cause. For a $30 contribution, participants could Zumba for three hours, and the proceeds of the Zumbathon went to Compassionate Care for ALS in Falmouth, a non-profit organization that provides equipment and support to families affected by ALS. The Zumbathon was in honor of Jeffrey Lawrence, a 47-year-old man living with ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis).

Skate Park Litter491 viewsAt a recent Mattapoisett Board of Selectmen meeting, Town Administrator Michael Gagne informed the Board that there has been a serious problem with litter at the skate park located behind the police station, despite the conveniently placed trash receptacles. Project Linus491 viewsStudents from Old Rochester Regional and the Mattapoisett Council on Aging joined together on May 13 to donate their blankets to the Boston-area chapter of Project Linus, an organization that gives blankets to sick and emotionally-distressed children.
