Stars & Stripes Forever Musical Revue419 viewsThe Marion Art Center staged the “Stars & Stripes Forever Musical Revue” last weekend to packed crowds. The rousing show mimicked a USO event, with the audience being entertained as the “troops.” The production featured the “Swanson Sisters from Sheboygan: Dixie, Trixie & Pixie,” (played by Caroline Blaise, Pam Breton, and Denise Bastos) and was hosted by the hilariously funny “Frankie B. Sharpe” (played by Eric Bosworth). The MAC theatre was set up cabaret style, and guests brought their own refreshments.

Strengthening Families Fair419 viewsThere was so much to do and discover on March 1 at the “Strengthening Families Fair”, funded by the Department of Early Education & Care, and coordinated by the Old Rochester Regional School District. The gymnasium at the ORR High School was set up like a kids’ wonderland, with art projects, reading activities, brightly-colored gymnastics equipment, a flowing rainbow parachute, and…everyone’s favorite local children’s music group, “the Toe Jam Puppet Band.” Photo by Jean Perry

During an induction banquet, the ORRAHOF honored athletes Charles Jefferson, Steven Heath, Tom DeCosta, Cornelia Dougall, Gretchen Hamer McDonald, and Peter Borsari. Build-your-own Snowman419 viewsUnder the direction of Jeanne McCullough, children at the Mattapoisett Free Library on December 30 participated in a step-by-step build-your-own snowperson activity during the winter school break. Little fingers sticky with glue flattened out cotton balls and fastened them to prefabricated Styrofoam snowperson shapes, and then glued on the trimmings under the guidance of caregivers. Marion Pack 32 Cub Scouts Fundraiser419 viewsThe Marion Pack 32 Cub Scouts, with the sponsorship of the Marion Recreation Department, held a Tabor Skate fundraiser on Sunday, January 11 in the Travis Roy Rink at Johnson Arena at Tabor Academy. Marion Natural History Museum419 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's after school group enjoyed one of the last days of warm weather by using seining nets to investigate our local fish population. By far the most commonly caught animal was the Atlantic Silverside, and then in descending order mummichogs, shrimp, mud snails, and hermit crabs, with one or two small Menhaden. The kids cooled off in the water at the Marion Harbormaster's beach and enjoyed a lovely fall day. Many thanks to Maggie Payne for her help with the nets.

Marion Town Party419 viewsChalk up another successful Marion Town Party as several hundred party-goers found good food and fun on the grounds of the Town House on 8/25. Children of all ages enjoyed inflatable games, climbing the rock wall, or jumping around to music. The annual party has its roots deep in the community and may have started as early at 1900. This year’s event featured live entertainment, a scavenger hunt, and lots of good food.
