Artist Visit420 viewsOn November 19, Author/Illustrator Teresa Flavin visited each of Mattapoisett Center School’s third grade classes. Ms. Flavin is the illustrator of Joseph Bruchac’s play Pushing Up the Sky featured in the 3rd Graders reading book. Her presentation included showing the students original sketches and artwork from her books, discussing the processes involved in creating artwork for publication and a short hands-on drawing project.

River Road Flood420 viewsA rainstorm on March 29 and 30 wreaked havoc on Massachusetts, leaving the Commonwealth in a state of emergency. The real fall-out didn’t arrive until March 31, when water tables reached record heights and dams in the region were tested to their maximum capacity. The Hathaway Pond Dam in Rochester needed reinforcement with sandbags and the area of Plumb Corner and Dexter Lane became a makeshift pond. Zumbathon420 viewsThe ORR high school gymnasium was alive with music and movement on Sunday, April 11, 2010, when dancers took to the floor for a good cause. For a $30 contribution, participants could Zumba for three hours, and the proceeds of the Zumbathon went to Compassionate Care for ALS in Falmouth, a non-profit organization that provides equipment and support to families affected by ALS. The Zumbathon was in honor of Jeffrey Lawrence, a 47-year-old man living with ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis).
