Marion Fire Department 504 viewsSunday was a solemn day for the Tri-Town and its first responders as many gathered to honor Thomas Nye, 72, a 45-year veteran of the Marion Fire Department who died February 27 in the line of duty. Over 100 firefighters, police officers, and EMS personnel from the Tri-Town and beyond marched together down Route 6 in Mattapoisett on March 3 to pay their respects to their fallen comrade who suffered a cardiac arrest at home after assisting in a fire call the night before. Mattapoisett Tree Committee 504 viewsOn March 9, the Mattapoisett Tree Committee announced the winners of the annual 5th-grade Tree City USA Arbor Day Foundation contest, with this year’s poster theme: “Trees Have Mass Appeal”. The first place prize of a $35 gift certificate went to Amanda Tomasso, whose poster now goes on to the statewide competition. The $25 second place prize went to Sasha Volkema. Pinewood Derby504 viewsMattapoisett Pack 53 held its Pinewood Derby on March 9 at the Mattapoisett Congregational Church. The Cub Scout division had 14 entries, and the Enthusiasts division had 11 entries. The five fastest Cub Scouts cars going to the regional competition in Rochester on March 23: 1st Gabe Michaud, 2nd Kyle Pina, 3rd Thomas Tseki, 4th Matthew Crain, and 5th Eamon Perez. Matthew Crain's blue and gold lego car won Best Scout Theme car, and the Most Unique Design went to Liam Garvin's camping car.
