Marion 5K489 viewsApproximately 448 runners participated in the 14th Annual Marion Village 5K on June 26, 2010. The community race raised approximately $6,000 for the Marion Recreational Committee that maintains playground equipment, baseball fields and otherwise enhances the recreational opportunities in Marion. 22-year old Brendan Medeiros of Fall River finished in first place with a time of 16:47. The village of Sweethaven was originally built for the production of the movie Popeye which starred Robin Williams and Shelly Duvall and was released in 1980. The village, located on the island of Malta in the Mediterranean Sea, is open to tourists and offers a variety of activities. February 9, 2012 edition
