Mattapoisett Tree Committee547 viewsMattapoisett fifth grader Fiona Hoben won 1st prize in the Arbor Day poster contest sponsored by the Mattapoisett Tree Committee in partnership with the Massachusetts Urban and Community Forestry Program. Runner up was Camryn Maniatis. Fifteen students worked with Old Hammondtown School art instructor Greta Anderson. The posters were judged by a group of Mattapoisett residents whose understanding and appreciation of art brought professional level review to the event.

Marion Natural History Museum547 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's after school group had a great time learning the difference between wild animal tracks, including coyote, raccoon, and bobcat. We also enjoyed practicing how to move like various animals by waddling, walking, bounding, and hopping. Bounding like a fisher cat and hopping like a snow shoe hare were by far the most difficult gaits to practice due to the placement of the rear feet versus the front. Santa’s boat docked at the Marion Wharf where the faces of hundreds of children lit up at his arrival. Santa boarded a horse-drawn carriage and paraded through the streets, passing businesses offering free goodies and dodging the whereabouts of that old Grinch who didn’t seem to mind Christmas coming at all this year.
