Zumbathon513 viewsThe ORR high school gymnasium was alive with music and movement on Sunday, April 11, 2010, when dancers took to the floor for a good cause. For a $30 contribution, participants could Zumba for three hours, and the proceeds of the Zumbathon went to Compassionate Care for ALS in Falmouth, a non-profit organization that provides equipment and support to families affected by ALS. The Zumbathon was in honor of Jeffrey Lawrence, a 47-year-old man living with ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis).

Marion 5K513 viewsApproximately 448 runners participated in the 14th Annual Marion Village 5K on June 26, 2010. The community race raised approximately $6,000 for the Marion Recreational Committee that maintains playground equipment, baseball fields and otherwise enhances the recreational opportunities in Marion. 22-year old Brendan Medeiros of Fall River finished in first place with a time of 16:47. Eeeeeeee513 viewsEastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) is on everyone’s minds this week as the state grapples with how to address the high levels of EEE found in mosquito samples. The Mattapoisett, Marion and Rochester Boards of Health canceled all evening activities on town grounds, and announced 6:00 pm closures of ball parks, playgrounds and town beaches as a result of what the state is calling a public health threat.

Bi Todd Ramp Sign Renewed513 viewsAfter David "Bi" Todd passed away in 2009, Mattapoisett resident Matthew Arguin, along with a friend, came up with a plan to have the state boat ramp dedicated to him after all his years of hauling boats on it. During Irene, the sign was blown down, but someone found it and returned it to the Harbormaster. With the help of local Ed Scholter and Horace Field, the sign was replaced and is better than ever.
