The Tabor team, which has almost 40 players, had a 1-2 record going into Saturday’s competition. VIP Treatment493 viewsSeven-year-old Brady Weglowski from Mattapoisett was named VIP and given the title of Ambassador for a day as part of a program through Healing Little Hearts and Boston Children’s Hospital. Brady (right), who suffers from a congenital heart defect, and classmate Ty Dumas traveled by motorcade with diplomatic security to meet with Gov. Deval Patrick, who showed the children his collection of challenge coins. Patrick also provided Brady with a citation to commemorate the visit.

Under the coaching of Chick Renfrew, members of the Sippican Tennis Club in Marion – including Hope Anderson, Alex Bilodeau, Tim Bolick, Alex Cannell, Caroline Godfrey, Henry Godfrey, Melissa Hooke Isabella Horstmann, Victoire Keane, Becky Kendall, Ollie Kendall, Julia Nojeim, Ollie Sughrue, Owen Sughrue, Elizabeth Tarrant and Parker Tonissi – competed in local tennis matches on the Sippican Tennis Club 18 and Under USTA team.

Hammond Quarry493 viewsMattapoisett Land Trust President Mike Huguenin led a group of about 52 people on a walk about Hammond Quarry, a historical property off Mattapoisett Neck Road that the MLT is hoping to acquire next year. Pink granite was mined from the site between the early 1700s through the early 1900s, and the MLT plans to purchase the property to preserve the quarries and carve out trails for public access. Marion Town Party493 viewsChalk up another successful Marion Town Party as several hundred party-goers found good food and fun on the grounds of the Town House on 8/25. Children of all ages enjoyed inflatable games, climbing the rock wall, or jumping around to music. The annual party has its roots deep in the community and may have started as early at 1900. This year’s event featured live entertainment, a scavenger hunt, and lots of good food.

Sharing the Harvest493 viewsOn September 25, 70 Old Hammondtown School 6th-graders went to "Sharing the Harvest," a volunteer-staffed farm at the Dartmouth YMCA that grows and distributes fresh food to local food banks. Students processed thousands of pounds of butternut squash, prepared seedling trays, planted garlic for next year's harvest, and unearthed sweet potatoes, despite the rain.
