Marion Natural History Museum502 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's after school group had a great time learning the difference between wild animal tracks, including coyote, raccoon, and bobcat. We also enjoyed practicing how to move like various animals by waddling, walking, bounding, and hopping. Bounding like a fisher cat and hopping like a snow shoe hare were by far the most difficult gaits to practice due to the placement of the rear feet versus the front. Many thanks to Jennifer Carlino for sharing her considerable expertise with us

Mattapoisett YMCA502 viewsOn Sunday, October 20, the Mattapoisett YMCA hosted its first annual Harbor Brew Fest. Participants enjoyed this sunny day of local brew tastings, live music by Sean Carney, and fresh scallops, while overlooking beautiful Mattapoisett Harbor. A bonfire on the beach accompanied by a smores bar added to the fun. All proceeds from the event will go towards the Mattapoisett YMCA’s Annual Campaign that helps deserving children attend summer camp, preschool and afterschool care.

Marion Natural History Museum502 viewsOn Wednesday, October 23 the Marion Natural History Museum's afterschool group went on a fall nature walk looking for signs of fall. One lucky student found an owl pellet under a tree! We were able to find burrows, nests, and even a small snake hiding under a log. We observed the different colors of the leaves of trees and shrubs and looked for mushrooms. It was great to spend such a beautiful fall day with these inquisitive kids!

Marion’s Annual Halloween Parade502 viewsThe weather held out for Marion’s Annual Halloween Parade sponsored by the “volunteer witches” at the Marion Art Center. The dark and windy weather conditions didn’t detract from the fun, and instead added a nice backdrop to the spookiest night of the year. Photos by Shawn Sweet
