Marion Town Party511 viewsChalk up another successful Marion Town Party as several hundred party-goers found good food and fun on the grounds of the Town House on 8/25. Children of all ages enjoyed inflatable games, climbing the rock wall, or jumping around to music. The annual party has its roots deep in the community and may have started as early at 1900. This year’s event featured live entertainment, a scavenger hunt, and lots of good food.

Murphy the dog511 viewsFirefighters in Rochester rescued Murphy the dog from the icy waters off of Sarah Sherman Road after straying from his family and falling through the thin ice on December 20. Firefighter Jeff Eldridge mounted an ice sled and headed 300 feet across the frozen pond to reach Murphy. The two were then pulled to land and Murphy was promptly taken to the ambulance. The turnout exceeded past Kids Equipment Fun Day events in Marion, especially last year’s, which was repeatedly postponed and then canceled altogether. As club member Gerry Dupont puts it, “It’s an affliction. Marion Natural History Museum511 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum had a great time learning how to identify some of our rare turtles and what to do if we find one. We found out which is our smelliest turtle and which can close up into a "box" so tight you can't even slip a piece of paper between its shell. The students had a chance to get up close with a diamondback terrapin, an Eastern box turtle, and an enormous Plymouth red-bellied cooter.
